Hotel de Paris Museum, a Site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, serves up local cuisine, culture, and atmosphere with new wine tours! The museum invites gastronomes, gourmands, epicures, and foodies to experience Hotel de Paris through wine and food.
“Hotel de Paris became famous for its cuisine and Paris-trained restaurateur Louis Dupuy. Today, his bigger-than-life personality would put him in the realm of celebrity chef and sommelier,” explains Kevin Kuharic, executive director. “Guests will explore the site in a quieter setting with a knowledgeable guide and see where culinary history was made. The museum will offer French and California wines inspired by Dupuy’s famous cellar alongside platters of charcuterie and cheeses. If you are passionate about food and drink, this is an immersive, distinctive, and authentic quality experience you will not want to miss.” “Famous the wide world over,” Hotel de Paris began in 1875 and is older than the State of Colorado. Dating from the state’s silver mining boom, the property offered a first-class French restaurant, showrooms for traveling salesmen, and luxurious lodging. The idealized French inn catered to wealthy businessmen, railroad tycoons, mining investors, and outdoor adventure seekers during the Gilded Age. After the Silver Panic of 1893, Hotel de Paris steadily declined; in 1954, the hotel was purchased and opened as a museum. Restored period rooms showcase the building’s original furnishings. The site’s wholeness provides a fascinating window into the lives of the hotel’s proprietors, workers, builders, and guests.
Wine tours take place the fourth Friday through September. 5 p.m. Duration 2 hours. Cost is $40/person museum members; $45/person non-museum members. Reservations paid in advance are required. Cancellations must be 48 hours in advance.
