Jan. 13th – Decipher Maya Writings

Professor Inga Calvin of CU returns to the Clear Creek Library District. At 5:30pm on Friday the 13th, Inga presents Maya writing at the Georgetown Library. Learn why the world will not end in 2012 and what the Maya writing means.

Jan. 12th – Mile High Cheapskates

The self proclaimed “Mile High Cheapskates” and co-owners of Milehighonthecheap.com, Laura Daily and Claire Walters visit the Idaho Springs Library at 11am on Saturday January 21st. The ladies will discuss ways to save money on everything from groceries to tickets to local sporting events. They will also provide tips on the “deal of day” websites, discuss ways to travel on a small budget and tell you where to find free or low cost classes. All attendees are entered into a drawing to win one of three $30 Safeway gift cards.

Jan. 7th – Geocache by Moonlight

Middle school and high school students grab your snowsuit and mittens as we venture out by moonlight to treasure hunt with our GPS devices. Meet at the Georgetown Library at 5pm. We will eat some grub that continue on our journey to discover hidden treasures already planted among us. Then we will split up into groups as we try to be the first to uncover the treasure (itunes gift cards) hidden by a librarian.

Dec. 8th – Books and Cooks

Join Chef Gordon Rocks from the Georgetown Loop Dinner train @ 11am and watch the Chef prepare Butternut squash soup and goat cheese crostinis. Reservations strongly reccomended. Cooking demonstration at the Georgetown Library.

November 12th – Georgetown Bighorn Sheep Festival

There are lots of events planned for this years Georgetown Bighorn Sheep Festival.  There will be volunteers on hand to help visitors view the sheep and ask questions from 10 am to 4 pm at the Georgetown Wildlife Viewing area.  The viewing area is located North East of town on Alvarado Road near the lake and Gateway Visitors Center.  Spotting scopes are available but your can bring along your own binoculars.  Volunteers will share a cup of hot cider with you as you learn about bighorn sheep.

At 1pm there is a guided tour planned – meet at the 22nd Street – drive across the bridge at the lake.  A guide will take the group around Silver Creek Trail.  It begins at a moderate climb but soon levels out and you will be rewarded with great scenery.

ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS – held in downtown Georgetown

  • Kids Corner Crafts, all day at Gallery Atrium, 6th Street.
  • Crafts & Face painting until 4pm.
  • Join in the Colorado Critters Parade at noon (5years and older) meet in front of the Community Center and march the Strousse Park.
  • Bounce House – all day – kids under 12 are invited to the Hamill House for lots of bouncing fun.
  • Georgetown Loop Historic Railroad Educational Sheep Festival Train trips depart exclusively from the Georgetown Devil’s Gate.
  • Bighorn Hokey Pokey — After the parade at Strousse Park.

Educational Events held at the Georgetown Community Center

  • 11am – Catching Poachers: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Protecting Colorado’s Wildlife
  • 1:30 pm – The Georgetown herd has lived here since before recorded history. Learn their natural history, management, & activities.
  • 2:30 pm – Winter Bird Feeding – Discover how to attract the birds that winter along our Front Range. Learn to identify birds, and simple ways you can help songbird
    conservation.
